I have an enquiry in and I am talking myself into it, which is usually a sign I should slow down. The enquiry, in their words: [textarea: paste the email or brief] Fee on the table: [text: amount, or 'not discussed yet'] How busy I am right now: [dropdown: desperate for work, comfortable, fairly full, turning things away] What is making me hesitate: [textarea: the thing you would not say out loud to them] Tell me what you would want to know before agreeing to this, and which of my hesitations are real signals rather than ordinary new-job nerves. Then draft two replies: one that accepts with conditions attached, and one that declines in a way that leaves the door open.
