Deploy to Netlify Checklist skill for Claude and Codex
Deploy to Netlify Checklist as an AI skill. It asks for Site type, Build command and publish folder, Redirect and header needs and 3 more, then does the rest.…
Install it once and Claude or Codex runs it for you. When your request matches, your AI loads the skill, asks for anything it is missing, and works through the template itself. Prefer to fill it in by hand? See the full prompt template.

When it is used
Use when a site is going live on Netlify and its build command, redirects, functions and domain need checking before launch. Do not use for migrating redirects from a legacy server or choosing a hosting provider. Related topics: devops, coding.
What it will ask you for
- Site type (choose one: Static site, Single page app, Framework with server functions)
- Build command and publish folder (free text, e.g. "Both as used locally")
- Redirect and header needs (longer free text)
- Functions in use (longer free text)
- Environment variable names (longer free text)
- Domain plan (free text, e.g. "Domain and registrar or none")
How it works
- Write the build settings into a netlify.toml, listing command, publish and base directories and the runtime version.
- Draft the redirect and header rules in priority order, with the single page fallback and 301s for old URLs.
- List each function with its directory, timeout and required environment names.
- Set out the domain and certificate steps, including which hostname redirects to which.
- Define preview checks for deep links, the 404 page and a function call, then the go or no-go line and the restore steps.
What you get
A checklist with a draft netlify.toml, ordered redirect rules, function and environment tables, domain steps, preview checks and a go or no-go line with restore steps.
What it watches out for
- Placing the catch-all rewrite above specific redirects, so the 301 rules never fire.
- Committing environment values to netlify.toml instead of the dashboard, which publishes them in the repository.
- Testing only the home page, so a broken deep link on the single page app reaches visitors.
How to install
Claude.ai and the Claude desktop app
- Download the skill .zip.
- Open Settings, then Capabilities, and find Skills.
- Choose Upload skill and select the .zip.
- Ask Claude for help with the task. It loads the skill when your request matches.
Claude Code
- Download the skill .zip.
- Unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ (or .claude/skills/ inside a project).
- Start a new session. Claude Code loads the skill when your request matches.
Codex
- Download the skill .zip.
- Unzip it into ~/.agents/skills/ (or .agents/skills/ inside a project).
- Codex picks it up on its own. Type $ and the skill name to use it, or just ask for the task.
Cursor
- Download the Cursor rule (.mdc).
- Save it in .cursor/rules/ inside your project.
- Cursor's agent applies the rule when your request matches its description.
AGENTS.md (Codex, Cursor, and other coding agents)
- Copy the AGENTS.md section.
- Paste it into AGENTS.md at the root of your repository, creating the file if needed.
- Coding agents that read AGENTS.md follow it when your request fits.
