Docker Compose Stack Review skill for Claude and Codex
Docker Compose Stack Review as an AI skill. It asks for The compose file, Purpose, Services that hold data and 2 more, then does the rest. Free to install in…
Install it once and Claude or Codex runs it for you. When your request matches, your AI loads the skill, asks for anything it is missing, and works through the template itself. Prefer to fill it in by hand? See the full prompt template.

When it is used
Use when a Docker Compose file needs a check of service startup order, networks, volumes, healthchecks, and container security. Do not use for Kubernetes manifests or optimising a single Dockerfile. Related topics: devops, coding.
What it will ask you for
- The compose file (longer free text)
- Purpose (choose one: Local development, CI, Single-server production)
- Services that hold data (free text, e.g. "Postgres and Redis")
- Focus (choose any: Networks, Volumes, Healthchecks, Startup order, Secrets, Container security, Resource limits)
- Exposed to the internet (choose one: Yes, No)
How it works
- Read every service and note its image, ports, volumes, networks, restart policy, and dependencies.
- Check startup order uses healthchecks that test real readiness, and that restart policies suit the stated purpose.
- Restrict published ports and put internal services on a private network, and confirm data services use named volumes.
- Flag security risks such as privileged mode, root users, the Docker socket mount, and secrets inline in the file.
- Return findings by severity and the corrected compose file with a comment on each change.
What you get
A short findings list by severity, then the corrected compose file with a comment on every changed line.
What it watches out for
- Using depends_on without a health condition, so the app starts before the database accepts connections.
- Publishing the database port to the host for convenience and leaving it open on a public server.
- Committing an env file with real credentials alongside the compose file.
How to install
Claude.ai and the Claude desktop app
- Download the skill .zip.
- Open Settings, then Capabilities, and find Skills.
- Choose Upload skill and select the .zip.
- Ask Claude for help with the task. It loads the skill when your request matches.
Claude Code
- Download the skill .zip.
- Unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ (or .claude/skills/ inside a project).
- Start a new session. Claude Code loads the skill when your request matches.
Codex
- Download the skill .zip.
- Unzip it into ~/.agents/skills/ (or .agents/skills/ inside a project).
- Codex picks it up on its own. Type $ and the skill name to use it, or just ask for the task.
Cursor
- Download the Cursor rule (.mdc).
- Save it in .cursor/rules/ inside your project.
- Cursor's agent applies the rule when your request matches its description.
AGENTS.md (Codex, Cursor, and other coding agents)
- Copy the AGENTS.md section.
- Paste it into AGENTS.md at the root of your repository, creating the file if needed.
- Coding agents that read AGENTS.md follow it when your request fits.
