Competitive Teardown skill for Claude and Codex
Competitive Teardown as an AI skill. It asks for Competitor and product, Your product, Information gathered and 3 more, then does the rest. Free to install in…
Install it once and Claude or Codex runs it for you. When your request matches, your AI loads the skill, asks for anything it is missing, and works through the template itself. Prefer to fill it in by hand? See the full prompt template.

When it is used
Use when a product or sales team needs a structured analysis of one competitor covering the job it does, pricing, strengths, weaknesses and openings. Do not use for a market-sizing study or a full multi-competitor landscape. Related topics: product, marketing.
What it will ask you for
- Competitor and product (free text, e.g. "Company and product name")
- Your product (longer free text)
- Information gathered (longer free text)
- Customer segment in focus (free text, e.g. "Small agencies")
- Purpose of the teardown (choose one: Positioning, Pricing, Roadmap, Sales battlecard)
- Source reliability (choose one: Public pages only, Hands-on use, Customer interviews)
How it works
- Define the job customers hire the competitor for and the alternatives they use instead.
- Break down the core promise, key workflows, onboarding and bundling from the supplied material.
- Lay out pricing with the charge metric and estimate a year's cost for the focus segment.
- List strengths and weaknesses with evidence, labelling each claim as confirmed, inferred or unknown.
- Give differentiation options tied to customer needs, objection lines for sales and three follow-up research questions.
What you get
A teardown with job, product breakdown, pricing table, evidence-labelled strengths and weaknesses, differentiation options, objection lines and next research questions.
What it watches out for
- Comparing feature lists instead of the job, which makes every product look the same and hides real gaps.
- Stating a competitor's weakness from a single review, when it may be an outlier.
- Using list prices as the real cost, when discounts and add-ons change what customers pay.
