Engineering Manager Plan Review skill for Claude and Codex
Engineering Manager Plan Review as an AI skill. It asks for Feature and goal, Proposed approach, Existing system and 3 more, then does the rest. Free to…
Install it once and Claude or Codex runs it for you. When your request matches, your AI loads the skill, asks for anything it is missing, and works through the template itself. Prefer to fill it in by hand? See the full prompt template.

When it is used
Use when an engineer or tech lead has a feature plan and needs the architecture, data flow, edge cases, and tests settled before implementation. Do not use for reviewing finished code or choosing a technology stack from scratch. Related topics: coding, product.
What it will ask you for
- Feature and goal (longer free text)
- Proposed approach (longer free text)
- Existing system (longer free text)
- Expected load and data size (free text, e.g. "Requests or rows per day")
- Hard constraints (longer free text)
- Team size (number from 1 to 20)
How it works
- Name each component with what it owns and what it must not touch, and flag unclear ownership.
- Trace one request through the system, marking every shape change and trust boundary.
- List at least eight edge cases, including retries, partial failure, and concurrent writes.
- Map every edge case to a named test at the right level.
- Produce a numbered build order of small steps plus the open questions blocking step one.
What you get
Sections for architecture, data flow, edge cases, failure handling, and test plan, then a numbered build order, blocking questions, and a go or no-go call.
What it watches out for
- Reviewing the happy path only, so the plan breaks on the first retry or duplicate.
- Listing tests without tying them to a specific risk.
- Skipping migration of existing data, the part that usually delays release.
How to install
Claude.ai and the Claude desktop app
- Download the skill .zip.
- Open Settings, then Capabilities, and find Skills.
- Choose Upload skill and select the .zip.
- Ask Claude for help with the task. It loads the skill when your request matches.
Claude Code
- Download the skill .zip.
- Unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ (or .claude/skills/ inside a project).
- Start a new session. Claude Code loads the skill when your request matches.
Codex
- Download the skill .zip.
- Unzip it into ~/.agents/skills/ (or .agents/skills/ inside a project).
- Codex picks it up on its own. Type $ and the skill name to use it, or just ask for the task.
Cursor
- Download the Cursor rule (.mdc).
- Save it in .cursor/rules/ inside your project.
- Cursor's agent applies the rule when your request matches its description.
AGENTS.md (Codex, Cursor, and other coding agents)
- Copy the AGENTS.md section.
- Paste it into AGENTS.md at the root of your repository, creating the file if needed.
- Coding agents that read AGENTS.md follow it when your request fits.
