Bite-Sized Implementation Plan skill for Claude and Codex
Bite-Sized Implementation Plan as an AI skill. It asks for Approved design, Repository layout, Language and test runner and 2 more, then does the rest. Free…
Install it once and Claude or Codex runs it for you. When your request matches, your AI loads the skill, asks for anything it is missing, and works through the template itself. Prefer to fill it in by hand? See the full prompt template.

When it is used
Use when an approved design needs to become an ordered list of tiny tasks with exact files and proving tests. Do not use for deciding what to build in the first place or running the plan task by task. Related topics: coding, productivity.
What it will ask you for
- Approved design (longer free text)
- Repository layout (longer free text)
- Language and test runner (free text, e.g. "Python with pytest or TypeScript with vitest")
- Task size (choose one: 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes)
- Include commit points (choose one: Yes, No)
How it works
- Read the design and the repository layout and list every file the work will create or change.
- Split the work into tasks of the chosen size, each leaving the test suite green when finished.
- Give each task its exact paths, signatures, first failing test and the command that proves completion.
- Reorder so the riskiest assumption is proven in the first few tasks and no task depends on a later one.
- Add commit points when requested and list what the plan leaves out.
What you get
A numbered plan where each task has goal, files, signatures, failing test, proving command and optional commit message, followed by a short out-of-scope list.
What it watches out for
- Writing tasks that say 'implement the service' with no signatures, which forces the executor to redesign on the fly.
- Tasks that only turn green together, so no checkpoint can prove progress.
- Naming files that do not exist in the layout, which sends the executor hunting.
How to install
Claude.ai and the Claude desktop app
- Download the skill .zip.
- Open Settings, then Capabilities, and find Skills.
- Choose Upload skill and select the .zip.
- Ask Claude for help with the task. It loads the skill when your request matches.
Claude Code
- Download the skill .zip.
- Unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ (or .claude/skills/ inside a project).
- Start a new session. Claude Code loads the skill when your request matches.
Codex
- Download the skill .zip.
- Unzip it into ~/.agents/skills/ (or .agents/skills/ inside a project).
- Codex picks it up on its own. Type $ and the skill name to use it, or just ask for the task.
Cursor
- Download the Cursor rule (.mdc).
- Save it in .cursor/rules/ inside your project.
- Cursor's agent applies the rule when your request matches its description.
AGENTS.md (Codex, Cursor, and other coding agents)
- Copy the AGENTS.md section.
- Paste it into AGENTS.md at the root of your repository, creating the file if needed.
- Coding agents that read AGENTS.md follow it when your request fits.
