Finish a Feature Branch skill for Claude and Codex
Finish a Feature Branch as an AI skill. It asks for Branch name, Base branch, Test command and 3 more, then does the rest. Free to install in Claude or Codex.
Install it once and Claude or Codex runs it for you. When your request matches, your AI loads the skill, asks for anything it is missing, and works through the template itself. Prefer to fill it in by hand? See the full prompt template.

When it is used
Use when a feature branch is finished and needs to be merged, turned into a pull request or parked safely. Do not use for fixing failing tests or writing the pull request description text. Related topics: coding, devops.
What it will ask you for
- Branch name (free text, e.g. "The feature branch")
- Base branch (free text, e.g. "Where it should land")
- Test command (free text, e.g. "Command that runs the suite")
- Team workflow (choose one: Pull request required, Direct merge allowed, Not sure)
- Preferred ending (choose one: Merge locally, Open a pull request, Keep the branch for now)
- Delete branch after (choose one: Yes, No)
How it works
- Run the test command and stop with a failure report if anything fails.
- Confirm the base branch from where the branch diverged and check that the working tree is clean.
- Show the commit list and diff summary that would land so the choice is informed.
- Carry out the chosen ending within the team workflow, re-running tests after any local merge.
- State the final result and ask before any step that cannot be undone, never force pushing.
What you get
A short report of the test result, commits that land, the ending chosen and the exact commands run, with any follow-up left for the user.
What it watches out for
- Merging into the wrong base because the branch was cut from a stale copy.
- Force pushing to tidy history after teammates have already pulled the branch.
- Merging locally and pushing without re-running the tests on the merged result.
How to install
Claude.ai and the Claude desktop app
- Download the skill .zip.
- Open Settings, then Capabilities, and find Skills.
- Choose Upload skill and select the .zip.
- Ask Claude for help with the task. It loads the skill when your request matches.
Claude Code
- Download the skill .zip.
- Unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ (or .claude/skills/ inside a project).
- Start a new session. Claude Code loads the skill when your request matches.
Codex
- Download the skill .zip.
- Unzip it into ~/.agents/skills/ (or .agents/skills/ inside a project).
- Codex picks it up on its own. Type $ and the skill name to use it, or just ask for the task.

- Download the Cursor rule (.mdc).
- Save it in .cursor/rules/ inside your project.
- Cursor's agent applies the rule when your request matches its description.
AGENTS.md (Codex, Cursor, and other coding agents)
- Copy the AGENTS.md section.
- Paste it into AGENTS.md at the root of your repository, creating the file if needed.
- Coding agents that read AGENTS.md follow it when your request fits.
