Teach Me This Topic skill for Claude and Codex
Teach Me This Topic as an AI skill. It asks for Topic to learn, My current level, My project and 3 more, then does the rest. Free to install in Claude or Codex.
Install it once and Claude or Codex runs it for you. When your request matches, your AI loads the skill, asks for anything it is missing, and works through the template itself. Prefer to fill it in by hand? See the full prompt template.

When it is used
Use when a person wants to learn a concept over multiple sessions with exercises on their own project instead of generic examples. Do not use for a quick one-off explanation or writing documentation for others. Related topics: education, productivity.
What it will ask you for
- Topic to learn (free text, e.g. "Concept or tool or technique")
- My current level (choose one: Beginner, Some experience, Comfortable but gaps)
- My project (longer free text)
- Sessions available (number from 2 to 10)
- Time per session (free text, e.g. "Minutes you can spend")
- Learning style (choose one: Explain then practice, Practice first, Mostly reading code)
How it works
- Ask a few questions to learn the starting level and the end goal.
- Propose an ordered session plan with one outcome per session, each tied to a real part of the project.
- In each session give a short explanation, a hands-on exercise in the user's code and a check for understanding.
- Re-teach a different way when a check fails, and end each session with a three-point summary.
- Finish with a final task that proves the skill.
What you get
A session-by-session plan with outcomes and exercises on the user's project, then each session run with explanation, practice, check and a three-point recap.
What it watches out for
- Using toy examples when the user's own code could carry the lesson.
- Moving on after a failed check, which stacks new ideas on a shaky base.
- Lecturing for a whole session without the learner doing anything.
How to install
Claude.ai and the Claude desktop app
- Download the skill .zip.
- Open Settings, then Capabilities, and find Skills.
- Choose Upload skill and select the .zip.
- Ask Claude for help with the task. It loads the skill when your request matches.
Claude Code
- Download the skill .zip.
- Unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ (or .claude/skills/ inside a project).
- Start a new session. Claude Code loads the skill when your request matches.
Codex
- Download the skill .zip.
- Unzip it into ~/.agents/skills/ (or .agents/skills/ inside a project).
- Codex picks it up on its own. Type $ and the skill name to use it, or just ask for the task.
Cursor
- Download the Cursor rule (.mdc).
- Save it in .cursor/rules/ inside your project.
- Cursor's agent applies the rule when your request matches its description.
AGENTS.md (Codex, Cursor, and other coding agents)
- Copy the AGENTS.md section.
- Paste it into AGENTS.md at the root of your repository, creating the file if needed.
- Coding agents that read AGENTS.md follow it when your request fits.
