Data Model Review skill for Claude and Codex
Data Model Review as an AI skill. It asks for Schema or model, Database, Main access patterns and 3 more, then does the rest. Free to install in Claude or…
Install it once and Claude or Codex runs it for you. When your request matches, your AI loads the skill, asks for anything it is missing, and works through the template itself. Prefer to fill it in by hand? See the full prompt template.

When it is used
Use when a database schema or document model needs checking for relationships, constraints and indexes against the queries the app really runs. Do not use for writing the SQL queries themselves or choosing a database product. Related topics: data, coding.
What it will ask you for
- Schema or model (longer free text)
- Database (choose one: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Firestore, MongoDB, SQLite, Other)
- Main access patterns (longer free text)
- Expected size (free text, e.g. "Rows or documents in a year")
- Rules the data must obey (longer free text)
- Known pain (longer free text)
How it works
- List every access pattern with the fields it filters, sorts and joins on, plus its rough volume.
- Check entities and relationships so each fact lives in one place and each record has a clear owner.
- Review constraints, delete behaviour, types and naming, and flag traps such as money in floats or free-text states.
- Propose an index for each access pattern with its column order and name any redundant existing indexes.
- Rank the changes and give a migration order that avoids downtime, with the risk of each.
What you get
An access pattern table, findings grouped by relationships, constraints and types, an index plan, and a ranked change list with a migration order.
What it watches out for
- Adding an index for every column, which slows writes and still misses the composite order queries need.
- Judging the schema without access patterns, so normalisation is optimised for neatness instead of use.
- Changing a column type in place on a large table, which locks it and causes the downtime the plan promised to avoid.
How to install
Claude.ai and the Claude desktop app
- Download the skill .zip.
- Open Settings, then Capabilities, and find Skills.
- Choose Upload skill and select the .zip.
- Ask Claude for help with the task. It loads the skill when your request matches.
Claude Code
- Download the skill .zip.
- Unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ (or .claude/skills/ inside a project).
- Start a new session. Claude Code loads the skill when your request matches.
Codex
- Download the skill .zip.
- Unzip it into ~/.agents/skills/ (or .agents/skills/ inside a project).
- Codex picks it up on its own. Type $ and the skill name to use it, or just ask for the task.
Cursor
- Download the Cursor rule (.mdc).
- Save it in .cursor/rules/ inside your project.
- Cursor's agent applies the rule when your request matches its description.
AGENTS.md (Codex, Cursor, and other coding agents)
- Copy the AGENTS.md section.
- Paste it into AGENTS.md at the root of your repository, creating the file if needed.
- Coding agents that read AGENTS.md follow it when your request fits.
