Conversation to Spec skill for Claude and Codex
Conversation to Spec as an AI skill. It asks for Discussion notes, Feature name, Audience for the spec and 2 more, then does the rest. Free to install in…
Install it once and Claude or Codex runs it for you. When your request matches, your AI loads the skill, asks for anything it is missing, and works through the template itself. Prefer to fill it in by hand? See the full prompt template.

When it is used
Use when a conversation or meeting notes need to become a written spec with testable acceptance criteria. Do not use for breaking a finished spec into tickets or interviewing someone to uncover requirements. Related topics: product, writing.
What it will ask you for
- Discussion notes (longer free text)
- Feature name (free text, e.g. "Short working name")
- Audience for the spec (choose one: Engineers, Product and design, Mixed team)
- Known constraints (longer free text)
- Detail level (choose one: One page, Standard, Detailed)
How it works
- Separate what was decided from what was suggested or left open in the discussion.
- Write the problem, goal and non-goals in plain words before any behavior.
- Describe the behavior concretely with example inputs and outputs and record each decision with its reason.
- Turn requirements into acceptance criteria that are observable checks, one result each.
- Mark assumptions, list open questions with owners, and flag the least certain statements.
What you get
A spec with problem, goal, non-goals, decisions, behavior with examples, constraints, open questions and acceptance criteria, ending with a shaky-statements list.
What it watches out for
- Presenting a floated idea as a decision, which the team then builds.
- Acceptance criteria such as 'works well', which nobody can check.
- Inventing requirements to fill gaps instead of listing them as open questions.
How to install
Claude.ai and the Claude desktop app
- Download the skill .zip.
- Open Settings, then Capabilities, and find Skills.
- Choose Upload skill and select the .zip.
- Ask Claude for help with the task. It loads the skill when your request matches.
Claude Code
- Download the skill .zip.
- Unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ (or .claude/skills/ inside a project).
- Start a new session. Claude Code loads the skill when your request matches.
Codex
- Download the skill .zip.
- Unzip it into ~/.agents/skills/ (or .agents/skills/ inside a project).
- Codex picks it up on its own. Type $ and the skill name to use it, or just ask for the task.
Cursor
- Download the Cursor rule (.mdc).
- Save it in .cursor/rules/ inside your project.
- Cursor's agent applies the rule when your request matches its description.
AGENTS.md (Codex, Cursor, and other coding agents)
- Copy the AGENTS.md section.
- Paste it into AGENTS.md at the root of your repository, creating the file if needed.
- Coding agents that read AGENTS.md follow it when your request fits.
